Scripture Memory Challenge
Week of November 20
As a teenager, I had the distinct privilege of learning the art of being a Christ-follower from my youth pastor, Greg Pickering. Greg was passionate about us, as teenagers, learning and applying the truths that are found in God’s Word. He not only taught us how, but he also modeled for us how to memorize scripture and apply it to our lives.
I left high school armed with God’s Word, all the while I continued to add ammunition on a weekly basis. Scripture memory proved to be helpful, whether focusing my heart’s attention on God’s character or combating temptation.
But as of late, laziness has trumped holiness in regards to this discipline. It’s time to make this make this discipline a reality once again… and with that being said, I would invite you to join me as we “hide God’s word in our hearts.”
Would you commit to memorizing one verse a week with me for the remainder of 2011?
Every Sunday night, I’ll post a new verse for the coming week. Whether you write it on your mirror with a dry-erase marker or write it on an index card and carry it everywhere you go. Maybe your method is the shout method? The method is not near as important as the end result. Lets get started:
Psalm 119:11
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
