Silence The Questions
It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. (1 Peter 2.15)
Jerry Sandusky has forever tarnished the legacy of Joe Paterno. Whether he is innocent or guilty, his choices and subsequent actions have left any rational human being to question his character…
Silence.
Just a few miles east, one of the elite college basketball coaches of this generation was forced to apologize… not because of inappropriate actions or inappropriate choices, but rather because he stood up for a friend, he stood up for a co-worker. He placed his reputation on the line, only to find out that this long time friend and colleague was living a dark life, unknown to many, with the exception of his wife…
Silence.
Those are just two high profile cases within the last month. And the unfortunate truth is that this harsh reality seems to hit close to home as well. Over the course of my short ministry, I have had to come to grips with three different friends who, for one reason or another, fell prey to this unfortunate reality and are now having to live the remainder of their life marked, suffering the harsh consequences of this unfortunate lapse of judgment.
Silence.
None of these well-intending men wanted to make poor choices. One guy was a teacher, his goal in life was to educate, to teach the upcoming generation, to challenge them to be better human beings. Unfortunately he placed himself in a compromising situation. Whether he violated the young lady or not, his character has now been tarnished because of the mere accusation combined with actions and decisions that he could not explain. His life was not lived in such a way to silence the critics, rather, it provided ammunition for them.
Silence.
While in most cases, truth does win out eventually… however, the mere accusation can be enough to completely ruin your character, your reputation, and ultimately your life.
While America says that you are innocent until proven guilty…
The Bible reminds us that simple innocence is not enough, rather we are to live “honorable lives that silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.” (1 Peter 2.15)
Silence.
This life here on earth is way to short to be playing games. Be wise in how you live. Be wise in how you interact with others. Be wise. May your wisdom in your choices and your actions honor Christ and silence any and ALL questions.
Silence.
Here. Here.. Well Said my good man and friend
